Dark World International, a west Cork independent music co-op, celebrated the digital release on iTunes for their artists Deemed Psychotic (The 1st), Infinisynth (default and reload), Kylyra (Red Book), Stygian Tars (Abridged Edition), and Dream Quest (Season One), by sending their top two artists, Kylyra and Tor, to this year's Eurosonic/Noorderslag weekend (11, 12, 13 January) in Groningen, Netherlands.

Centring around Groningen's Grote Markt and facilitated at the fabulous Oosterpoort building, the weekend actually consists of two separate events running simultaneously. Noorderslag weekend includes three days of seminars and networking with music industry professionals, and culminates on Saturday night with showcase performances from the best artists the Netherlands has to offer. The Eurosonic festival runs for two nights (Thursday and Friday) at 21 venues in Groningen and includes over 150 performances from the best European independent/unsigned acts. Festival goers have the option of attending one or both events and receive a wristband allowing entry to venues. The weekend has consistently sold out year after year, so early wristband purchase is recommended. Check the Noorderslag web site at www.noorderslag.nl for more information on attending the event.

For two nights 21 venues in Groningen open their doors to massive crowds queuing up to see the best independent/unsigned acts Europe has to offer. Shows begin at 8 pm and continue through 3 am at venues ranging from small, intimate clubs to large and formal theatres. With artists from Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Moldavia, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the UK, Eurosonic offers a unique opportunity to listen to an amazing range of music. Rock, punk, nu metal, thrash, folk, noise, avant-garde, acoustic, rap, hip hop, techno, drum and bass, pop, reggae, soul, rhythm and blues, electro, jazz, trip-hop, ska, rockabilly, surf, funk, dance, ambient, trash, hardcore - whatever your taste in music, you'll find it somewhere at Eurosonic.

With such a huge selection of venues and acts to see it was impossible for our artists to personally check out every performance. The following report is on the acts they managed (or tried) to see:
