Poetry by Dylan O'Mahoney
Innocent
What's happening, what's happening
Can someone help me please
Someone must explain it
I'm begging on my knees
See, I've only just arrived here
from my childhood days
But the world is very different
from my youthful gaze
I never saw the murder
the rape, the hate, the maim
I was so protected
I never felt the pain
Mother can you help me
Please, what's it all about
Can't you understand me
Can't you even see my doubt
The headlines in the paper
They make me really sick
"Man rapes little girl"
"Dog beaten to death with stick"
The justice of the world
it's really quite bizzare
In Africa they starve to death
others drive a Rolls Royce car
Mother you tried to teach me
What is right from wrong
So try now to accept it
In this race I don't belong
I'm way past understanding
A real tear away
But which one of us is right or wrong
and who is there to say
