the empty cave reading room - Poetry
Incantation (to a sleeping shadow soul)
come to me in your skin,
come to me in your rags,
carrying your bones and tambourine.
come with swiftness, come with stealth,
I call you tonight.
come with your charms,
wearing all the flowers in your hair,
singing songs for the dead,
and songs for the moon.
come with dolls, come with daggers,
come with wine and bread.
come telling of ancient days,
of oceans and love.
come telling of women,
of breasts and embraces.
come to me with the mist,
come into and out of the shadows,
come to me with your bells,
come with your teeth, your stars,
saltwater and perfumes,
bearing honey and sugar,
with prayers on your lips.
come draped in a thousand years
of secrets and spells.
come with swiftness, come with stealth,
come before this fire.
come hide behind the flames,
come dance upon the sand
as I have this night and a hundred others,
come calling out to me
as I have to you
come with your bracelets and beads,
trinkets and rings.
come revealing your colors,
magic and herbs.
come whispering, come wandering,
come drink from this cup
that has touched my lips.
come to me wearing feathers,
come to me in your rags,
ladden with earth,
heart held up in reaching hands,
blood dripping down your arms
like nectar, sweet, pure.
come with your sacrifice,
I offer you mine.
come with swiftness, come with stealth,
I call you tonight.
