General - height 6-10 m, spread 3-6 m, a large deciduous shrub with corky, grey-brown bark. Foliage has an unpleasant smell when crushed.
Leaves - pinnate, divided into 5 ovate toothed leaflets
Flowers - tiny, aromatic, creamy-white, flat-topped clusters
Fruit - globose black berries
