General - height 25 m, a large tree with deeply fissured, grey-brown bark and ascending branches
Leaves - lanceolate, tapering, to 10 cm long long
Flowers - catkins, yellow-green, 3-5 cm long

Leaves are collected during growing season and used fresh or dried for infusions. Bark is removed throughout the summer and dried for use in decoctions, tablets, and tinctures.
