solo artist – genre: Nu-Metal/Industrial

Get your ears ready for an assault. Tor’s Angst, a solo project from KarrArikh Tor, will set your teeth on edge with its heart of noise in an onslaught of nu-metal/industrial music. Fans know KarrArikh Tor’s guitar work from bands like Infinisynth, Deemed Psychotic, Future Dialogue and Shaky Dawg, to name a few, but this is his attempt at something much heavier. Begun in 2007, KarrArikh spent months planning instruments and tracks, even recording the sounds of his surroundings for the samples. Work began in the time between other projects, late nights in the Dark World studio.

“I actually thought it might be a new Infinisynth release at first, but then I realised it was going to sound far too different. I had been listening to too much Slayer and Korn, and I wanted to use elements from them, particularly more distorted and faster guitars than Infinisynth, and more chromatic writing than Deemed Psychotic. I had no lyrical ideas at the beginning. Songs were recorded from rhythm to samples and keys, then to bass and guitar. Rhythms were not quite drum patterns like I had in other bands, they got a bit more experimental and harsh. Rough mixes were taken when music seemed done. Lyrics were written and rehearsed to these recordings. I had used the technique in Infinisynth before so I was not thrown by it, but it took me months to write the words.” All songs were written, programmed, sampled, arranged, performed, produced and engineered by KarrArikh Tor, this is all voices, instruments and sounds you hear on the release.

Heavily distorted guitars, chaotic rhythms and multiple vocal lines are laid over specially created industrial samples creating a powerful audio experience. “I had found that I wanted to do something heavier and noisier than I had done in the past. Musically it is experiments with industrial samples and distortion. The guitars get trashy at times, chaotic at others. The words reflect a view of the universe as I see it in the now. I know I’m a noisy bastard at heart and maybe I needed to release this Angst from me so I can play all those nicer things I do in other bands.” The first full release contains fourteen new songs. Five rough 1st mixes from JGHAZKR are free to download on www.darkworld.com website and can be found by clicking on the “Free MP3s” link on the Tor’s Angst Audio profile. “Angst – it is an assault on all your senses and more, kinda like looking into the heart of the TARDIS, or walking through a city and getting mugged.” Not for the weak of heart.
